Longevity is such a buzzword these days. But what really makes up good health and longevity? And how does autoimmunity impact that?
With longevity 'guru' Bryon Johnson recently revealing his new autoimmune diagnosis, I decided to do a little series on autoimmune disease (after all, I had one, and that is how I came to Functional Medicine in the first place!) - and the bigger picture thinking of a Functional Medicine approach to longevity that is often overlooked.
-----
Tired of the guessing game when it comes to your health? I help high achievers take their health to the next level with a lab testing, science based root cause approach, that finally connects all the dots of their health picture - for a targeted and bespoke 360 health optimisation, longevity & prevention approach.

Peptides are exploding in popularity, and while still unregulated, and for the majority officially only available for research purposes, suppliers providing peptides are popping up left, right and center. If you have heard the word 'peptides' thrown around in longevity circles and dismissed them as another fad, I'd beg you to differ. Peptides can indeed be powerful tools to add to your health and longevity optimisation toolbox. I personally am experimenting with some of them.
However, there are some peptides that, while often making one feel (and look! - Think fat burning, toning, muscle building, better skin and sleep!) great in the short term, might come with potential serious long-term side effects (like cancer risk!). The scary part is that if you or your friends are on peptides, chances are great you are also on those. With immediate feel and look good effects, they are given out like candy, as who doesn’t want a miracle solution? As always, rather than jumping on a trend, I went searching the scientific literature to cut through the fad noise for you, and am summarising what I found in this video series.
For a more in depth overview on the most popular peptides, their benefits, but also, importantly, their theoretical potential side effects, I have put together a guide here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0H83QG7RD

Peptides have become increasingly popular in longevity and health optimisation circles, promising anything from better skin and hair, to reduce joint pains and faster healing from injuries, to weight loss, a more defined and toned body, all the way to living longer. But are they what they promise, and more importantly, are they safe?
Let’s explore another peptide in today’s post, and what research really says: Epitalon While you have likely come across the likes of Ozempic or mounjaro, BPC-157 or copper peptides by now, Epitalon (also spelled Epithalon or Epithalone) is one that tends to fly under the radar.
Today’s podcast is dedicated to Epitalon, and it intriguing potential benefits to health and longevity.

While you likely have heard of some of the more prominent peptides by now, including Ozempic, wegovy and mounjaro for their weightloss effects, and possibly also copper peptides for its skin benefits and BPC-157 for its purported gut healing, unless you are deep inside the biohacking or peptide world, thymosin alpha 1 might not have made it onto your radar (quite yet).
However, this might just be one of the more powerful (and for the majority likely safe!*) peptides on the market. As part of my deep dive into the science, benefits (and potential risks!) of peptides, I have compiled a post on the peptide thymosin alpha 1, and its potential benefits might just be life-altering (and extending).

I'd love to hear your thoughts, have you experimented with peptides? What is your experience, if any?
*Reminder: Most peptides are currently not approved for human use in many countries and research is still evolving. This article is intended for educational purposes only, not medical advice.
